In Andrew's words:

Andrew's Obituary (October 13, 2006, Telegram Tribune)

Andrew Montanaro

Andrew Montanaro passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2006, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was only 20 years old, but he was endowed with a maturity, dignity, and strength far beyond his years. At 6'5" he was a gentle, brilliant giant who maintained his compassionate nature and good humor in the face of extreme adversity.
Andrew made friends easily with his crooked smile, ready wit and unique outlook on life.
Upon graduation from SLO High in 2005, he attained his lifelong ambition of attending UC Berkeley. He delighted in spending time with his many friends and enjoyed computers, video games, music and movies.
He is survived by soulmate and fiancee Dayna Hubbell, mother Blythe, brother Cory, and by his loving extended family. We extend special thanks to Dr. Bravo, Dr. Spillane, Dr. Femino and R.N. Holly Lucero.
In addition, our gratitude to the caring staff of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. We appreciate the members of this wonderful community for their cards, calls and prayers.
In lieu of tears, please celebrate Andrew's life as a blessing on the winds of time, and instead of flowers please consider a donation to the National Childhood Cancer Foundation Children's Oncology Group (www.curesearch.org) or a favorite charity.
